KENTUCKY — Kentucky State Police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in Bullitt County.

Around 4:30 a.m. on June 29, the Pioneer Village Police Department requested assistance from state troopers to investigate a shooting in the 3000 block of Pioneer Trail.

When troopers arrived, they found 33-year-old Aaron Welker lying face down in the kitchen with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

Also at the scene was 34-year-old Kent Russell, who was interviewed by investigators and later arrested.

He has been charged with murder and is currently being held at the Bullitt County Detention Center.

The Bullitt County Coroner’s Office transported Welker’s body to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville, where an autopsy is scheduled to be performed Monday morning.

The investigation is ongoing.
