KENTUCKY — One person is dead and a 13-year-old boy is injured following a pair of apparently related shootings early Tuesday morning, according to Louisville Metro Police.
Officers with LMPD’s Second Division responded to a reported shooting around 4:20 a.m. in the 600 block of South 39th Street, in the Shawnee neighborhood.
There, they found a boy, believed to be 13 years old, with a gunshot wound to the leg.
Officers administered first aid until emergency responders arrived. The teen was transported to UofL Hospital with injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening.
While police were still on scene, they were alerted to a second shooting near 38th Street and Broadway, where the Chickasaw and Shawnee neighborhoods meet. Officers found an adult male victim at that location who had been fatally shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe both shootings are connected and occurred in the area of 38th and Broadway, though it is unclear how the teen ended up several blocks north on 39th Street.
The LMPD Homicide Unit is leading the investigation. No suspects have been identified. Anyone with information is urged to call the anonymous Crime Tip Hotline at 502-574-LMPD (5673) or submit a tip through the online LMPD Crime Tip Portal.
