INDIANA — Police are investigating a shooting on the city’s near north side that left one person dead and another injured early Saturday morning.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said officers were called to the 3300 block of Graceland Avenue, just east of 34th Street and North Meridian Street, around 2 a.m. on Aug. 23.
When officers arrived, they found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. That person was taken to a hospital in critical condition but later died from their injuries.
A short time later, another individual with a gunshot wound arrived at an Indianapolis hospital seeking treatment. Police believe that person was also injured in the Graceland Avenue shooting. An IMPD spokesperson said the victim was “awake and breathing.”
While investigating the shooting, officers also responded to a car crash. Inside the vehicle, they found an adult and a juvenile who matched witness descriptions from the shooting. Both were taken into custody.
The investigation is ongoing.
