ILLINOIS — A 32-year-old Champaign man has died following a shooting early Thursday morning, prompting a homicide investigation by local authorities.
Champaign Police were dispatched to the 1900 block of W. Bradley Avenue at 12:36 a.m. on July 4 after receiving multiple reports of gunfire and injuries. While officers searched the area, the victim arrived at a local hospital by private transport in critical condition. He was taken into surgery but later died from his injuries.
Investigators believe the man was standing outside a business when multiple shots were fired.
The suspect or suspects fled the scene before officers arrived. In addition to the fatal shooting, several vehicles in the area were also damaged.
Police are continuing to canvass the neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance footage. Nearby residents and businesses with exterior cameras are urged to contact the police.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
