GEORGIA — Statesboro police are asking witnesses to come forward after a man was shot and killed early Saturday morning in the parking lot of a Lanier Drive business strip.

According to the Statesboro Police Department, officers responded around 1:01 a.m. to 200 Lanier Drive, which houses Cowboy’s Bar and Smoke Crave. When officers arrived, they found a 30-year-old man who had died from a gunshot wound.

Detectives reviewed surveillance footage and Flock tag reader data from the area. Investigators said video evidence shows several people were in the parking lot near the shooting, but none remained at the scene to speak with police.

The victim was identified using an SPD portable fingerprint scanner. His next of kin have been notified, though his name has not been released pending further investigation. The Bulloch County Coroner’s Office will transport the victim to the GBI Coastal Regional Lab for an autopsy.
