FLORIDA — One juvenile is dead and another is in custody following a shooting Thursday afternoon near the South Orlando YMCA and Oak Ridge High School, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the incident occurred at Vogt-Meloon Park, where one juvenile was shot by another. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
After the shooting, the suspect reportedly fled on foot to nearby Oak Ridge High School. The school’s resource deputy quickly detained the individual without further incident, authorities said.
As a precaution, Oak Ridge High School was placed on lockdown while deputies investigated. Orange County Public Schools released a statement confirming that the lockdown occurred after school dismissal and that all students and staff remaining on campus were safe.
“The lockdown has since been lifted,” the Sheriff’s Office said in an update.
No additional details, including the ages or identities of those involved, have been released as the investigation continues.
