GEORGIA — A man died Tuesday night after being shot inside a McDonald’s restaurant in Elberton, according to local police.
Elberton Police said they received a report of a shooting at the restaurant at 10:19 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a man in the lobby suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The suspected shooter had already fled the scene.
The victim was taken to Elbert Memorial Hospital, where he later died. Investigators said the shooting followed an argument between the victim and another man inside the lobby. The suspect reportedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim before leaving.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will now take over the homicide investigation.
Mikesh Patel, the owner and operator of the McDonald’s, issued a statement following the incident: “We are devastated by the loss of our crew member and by this senseless act of violence. Our hearts are with their family, friends, and loved ones, and we are providing support and resources to our crew during this incredibly difficult time. We will continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement as they investigate.”
