COLUMBUS — A man was fatally shot late Wednesday night outside an apartment building near Hilliard, according to the Columbus Division of Police.
One person has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
The Columbus Police dispatch center received a call at approximately 11:15 p.m. reporting gunshots at the Cabot Cove Apartments, located in the 5600 block of Cabot Cove Drive, near Hilliard Rome Road.
Shortly after, another 911 call reported a body on the ground, with the caller suggesting the individual had been shot.
Officers arrived on the scene and found a man lying outside the apartment building. Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at 11:42 p.m.
Nearby, police located a man believed to be the suspect, who was detained and taken in for questioning by detectives.
A firearm was also recovered at the scene, though authorities have not yet confirmed if it was involved in the shooting.
Investigators believe the men knew each other and were engaged in an altercation prior to the shooting.
