ALABAMA — One person was killed Thursday morning in a semi-truck crash on a major highway in Dale County.

According to Dale County Coroner John Cawley, the driver of the 18-wheeler died after the truck ran off Highway 231 and crashed into a treeline near the 48-mile marker.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

Authorities said both northbound lanes of Highway 231 were blocked as crews worked to remove the truck from the scene. The closure is expected to last for an undetermined amount of time.

The Dothan Fire Department was called to assist around 6:13 a.m., Fire Chief David Hastings said. Crews from the Marley Mill Volunteer Fire Department also responded to determine whether the truck was carrying hazardous materials.

Officials later confirmed the truck was not transporting hazardous materials.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
