
GEORGIA — Authorities have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with a deadly road rage incident that left a Texas man dead along Interstate 85.
According to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a possible vehicle accident with injuries around 4 p.m. on July 30 near the 11-mile marker of I-85.
When deputies arrived, they found a vehicle in the median and the driver, identified as 64-year-old Richard Hawk of Texas, unresponsive and bleeding.
Hawk was removed from the vehicle and placed in an ambulance, where medics discovered he had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center, where he died shortly after arrival.
A witness at the scene reported seeing aggressive driving behavior between two vehicles on the interstate and provided a tag number and vehicle description to West Point Police Department dispatchers.
Officers located the second vehicle in the city limits of West Point.
Troup County investigators responded and detained the driver, identified as Nytorian Allen, 23. He was transported to the sheriff’s office and has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Due to the proximity of the incident, West Point Elementary School was briefly placed on lockdown, which was lifted shortly after.
The investigation is ongoing.
