One person dead following plane crash in South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA — Federal authorities have confirmed that one person was killed and another seriously injured in a plane crash in Lexington County on Friday morning.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, a Cirrus SR-22 aircraft crashed at approximately 9:50 a.m. The FAA said two people were on board the plane but initially did not release details about their conditions.

The Lexington County Fire Service later reported that the crash occurred in the Gilbert area of Lexington County. Margaret Fisher, the Lexington County coroner, confirmed that one of the two occupants died as a result of the crash. The second person was listed in serious condition as of about 12:30 p.m.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved.
