
ILLINOIS — One person is dead following a small plane crash Friday afternoon in Whiteside County, according to authorities.
Illinois State Police said the crash occurred around 3 p.m. near the intersection of Thome and McNiel roads, just south of Route 40 in Rock Falls. The location is approximately a half-mile south of the Whiteside County Airport.
Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as a Piper PA-28. Authorities said the pilot was the only person on board at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders were called to the scene, where the pilot was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported.
Police said there are no road closures related to the incident.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash, with the NTSB serving as the lead agency. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
