VIRGINIA — A 20-year-old motorcyclist died after a head-on crash with a sedan in Powhatan County on Sunday afternoon, according to Virginia State Police.
Troopers responded around 1:05 p.m. on March 29 to the 500 block of Butterwood Circle for a reported crash.
A preliminary investigation found that Thomas Leon Hollyfield, of Powhatan, was riding a 2004 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle uphill on a curve when he was reportedly speeding and crossed into the opposite lane of travel.
Police said the motorcycle then collided head-on with a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze.
Hollyfield was thrown from the motorcycle and taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities said he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Chevrolet suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police.
