VIRGINIA — A Roanoke man was killed Thursday evening in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 581 in Roanoke County, according to Virginia State Police.
Troopers said the crash happened around 5:09 p.m. on the southbound lanes of Interstate 581 near the Valley View Mall entrance ramp.
Investigators said a 2025 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed while changing lanes when it struck the rear of a 2011 Ford Explorer.
The motorcycle’s driver, Anthony Lee Spencer, 58, of Roanoke, was wearing a helmet but died at the scene, according to state police.
The driver of the Ford Explorer was injured and taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the investigation. Officials said the crash remains under investigation.
