TENNESSEE — A 28-year-old motorcyclist died Wednesday night after a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 81 in Sullivan County.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just before 10 p.m. near mile marker 60 on I-81 South. The motorcycle came to rest in the left lane, and the driver, Joshua Lee McGuire, was thrown into the middle of the roadway. McGuire was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said a tractor-trailer traveling in the left lane struck the motorcycle, dragging it before stopping on the right shoulder. The tractor-trailer then caught fire. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
