OHIO — A 29-year-old man is dead following a crash involving a motorcycle and a car Thursday afternoon in downtown Cincinnati.

According to the Cincinnati Police Department, the collision occurred around 1:11 p.m. at the intersection of West 9th Street and Plum Street.

Investigators say a 2022 Kawasaki ZX14R motorcycle, traveling west on West 9th Street, ran a red light and struck a 2017 Honda Civic that was heading south on Plum Street. The impact pushed the Civic into two parked, unoccupied vehicles.

The motorcyclist, identified by the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office as Justin Piper, was transported to UC Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. Police confirmed that Piper was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Honda Civic suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to UC Medical Center for treatment.

Cincinnati police are investigating excessive speed as a possible factor in the crash. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the CPD Traffic Unit at 513-352-2514.
