OHIO — A 38-year-old man from East Liverpool died early Monday morning after crashing his motorcycle on State Route 7, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred near mile post 25, just north of the Franklin Street exit ramp to Toronto, in Jefferson County. The Steubenville Post of the Highway Patrol is leading the investigation.
Troopers say the motorcyclist, identified as Graig Bartlett II, was riding a dark green 2002 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Classic northbound on the mostly straight and level four-lane stretch of SR-7 when he went off the right side of the road.
The motorcycle traveled along the shoulder and grass before striking the end of a guardrail.
The impact threw Bartlett from the motorcycle, launching him over the guardrail into a wooded area. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorcycle continued north along the shoulder and came to a stop in the right lane of SR-7 North.
Authorities confirmed Bartlett was not wearing a helmet and did not possess a motorcycle license. Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash.
The Toronto Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Toronto EMS and Fire, Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, and CK Towing all assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
