ILLINOIS — A motorcycle driver was killed Wednesday night in a crash on Cunningham Avenue near the on-ramp to eastbound I-74, Urbana police announced.
Lieutenant David Roesch said a semi-truck making a left turn failed to yield to oncoming traffic and struck two motorcycles traveling northbound on Cunningham. One motorcyclist was fatally injured and pronounced dead at a local hospital. The other sustained minor injuries and was treated and released.
The semi-truck driver was cited for failing to yield to traffic. Cunningham Avenue was closed for several hours as Urbana Police, assisted by the Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Team, investigated the crash.
“The Urbana Police Department thanks the public for their patience and understanding during the extended road closure,” Roesch said. “We extend condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time.”
The investigation is ongoing, and police said no further information will be released at this time.
