FLORIDA — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash early Wednesday morning on Southwest Archer Road in Gainesville, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers and deputies with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 5600 block of Southwest Archer Road, just east of Southwest 56th Terrace, shortly after 2:30 a.m.
Investigators say a 23-year-old Gainesville man was traveling westbound in the left lane on a motorcycle. At the same time, a 44-year-old man driving a tanker truck was traveling westbound in the right lane of the roadway.
Authorities say the motorcyclist lost control, was thrown from the motorcycle and into the path of the tanker truck, where he was struck.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
All westbound lanes of Southwest Archer Road were temporarily closed while troopers investigated the crash but have since reopened.
Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
