ILLINOIS — A 50-year-old man died Thursday afternoon in a tragic accident in Argenta, according to the Macon County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Claremont Street while a company was hired to clear leaves from the streets using an industrial vacuum. Lieutenant Scott Flannery said the victim, William Whitsel of Decatur, was standing on the back of a truck pulling the vacuum on a trailer when he likely lost his balance and fell. He was then run over by the trailer.
“He was transported to Decatur Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased,” Flannery said.
Flannery added that authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident and any potential legal ramifications for the driver.
