INDIANA — A 70-year-old man died following an industrial accident Wednesday evening in Hancock County, according to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched around 5:15 p.m. Jan. 7 to a report of an injured person at Formica Corporation, located in the 6500 block of West 350 North. A deputy who was nearby arrived first and found a man pinned beneath a large industrial service van.

Investigators said the man was attempting to change a flat tire and had the vehicle raised on a jack when it slipped, trapping him between the van and the ground. One of the wheels had already been removed at the time of the incident.

The deputy requested assistance from a Formica employee, who used a forklift to lift the rear of the van. As the vehicle was raised, the deputy was able to pull the man from underneath.

Medics with the Buck Creek Fire Department arrived moments later and transported the man to an Indianapolis hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim was identified as Duane Hodson, 70, of Anderson, Indiana. No additional information was released.
