ILLINOIS — A 15-year-old girl was killed in a hit-and-run crash Saturday night on Chicago’s South Side, according to police.
Officers with the Chicago Police Department responded around 8:34 p.m. to the 2800 block of East 77th Street in the South Shore neighborhood.
When officers arrived, they found the girl unresponsive. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Violet D. Harris.
Preliminary information indicates the girl was riding a motorized scooter when she was struck by a vehicle. The driver fled the scene following the crash.
Police have not released a description of the vehicle involved.
Chicago police Major Accident Detectives are continuing to investigate.
