FLORIDA — Authorities are searching for a driver involved in a hit-and-run crash that left a man and a dog dead and a woman critically injured Thursday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just before 9 p.m. near the intersection of Lee Road and Adanson Street.

Troopers said a 2021 Lexus ES was traveling eastbound on Lee Road when the driver veered off the roadway and onto a raised median, striking two people and a dog.

Investigators said the victims, a man in a wheelchair and a woman, were on the median at the time of the crash. The impact also caused debris from the wheelchair to strike a nearby pickup truck that was stopped in a turn lane.

The man in the wheelchair was pronounced dead at the scene. The dog also died. The woman was transported to a hospital and is listed in stable but critical condition.

Authorities said the driver fled the scene, continuing eastbound. The vehicle was later found abandoned in a nearby parking lot with damage consistent with the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 20-year-old man, was not injured and remained at the scene.

The identities of the victims have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol or call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.

The investigation is ongoing.
