FLORIDA — One child is dead and another is injured after a hit-and-run crash in Polk County, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators say the two children were crossing Crystal Beach Road Wednesday night to reach Faith Baptist Church, where their family’s car was parked.
Authorities say a vehicle struck both children and then fled the scene. A witness reported seeing the driver turn onto Winter Lake Road after the crash.
One of the children died from their injuries. The other child was hurt, though officials have not released details about the extent of the injuries.
The identities of the children have not been released.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said more information is expected to be released as the investigation continues.
