One person dead following head-on crash in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — A driver was killed in a head-on collision on Christmas Day in Henderson County after being ejected from his vehicle, according to authorities.

The crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on N.C. Highway 191. Investigators with the North Carolina Highway Patrol said a black 2001 Honda CR-V was traveling south at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, crossed the center line and struck a 2023 Ford F-150 head-on.

Troopers said the driver of the Honda was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected through the windshield during the collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No other occupants were in the CR-V.

The driver of the Ford F-150 was traveling with his wife and two children. All four were transported to Mission Hospitalwith minor, non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Honda was identified as 52-year-old Silverio Torres Sanchez of Hendersonville. Authorities said no charges are pending in the case due to Sanchez’s death.
