OHIO — Columbus police are investigating a head-on crash that left one woman dead and another injured Monday evening.

The crash occurred at about 7:24 p.m. on Dec. 15 along East 17th Avenue near John Glenn International Airport, according to a news release from Columbus police. Investigators said an unknown gray vehicle pulled out of a parking lot at 3156 E. 17th Ave. as traffic was traveling through the area.

Police said a westbound Ford Fusion on East 17th Avenue swerved left across the center line in an attempt to avoid the gray vehicle. The Ford then collided head-on with a Chevrolet Camaro that was traveling eastbound.

The woman driving the Ford Fusion was transported to Ohio State University East Hospital in stable condition. Police said her condition later deteriorated, and she was pronounced dead by emergency room staff.

The woman driving the Chevrolet Camaro was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated in stable condition.

The driver of the gray vehicle did not remain at the scene. Police are continuing to investigate the crash and are asking anyone with information to contact Columbus police or submit an anonymous tip to Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
