OHIO — A 19-year-old man drowned Friday night while fishing with friends at Lake Milton, according to emergency officials.
Lake Milton and Craig Beach firefighters were called just before 10:30 p.m. for reports of a man who had fallen off the dam and gone underwater, Portage County Water Rescue Team Commander Scott Simmons said in a Saturday news release.
Responders learned that four friends had been fishing from the lake side of the dam near Grandview Road when one of them reached down to grab a fishing net, slipped, and fell into the water. Three of the four fell in, but two managed to get out safely. The 19-year-old did not resurface.
Berlin Township firefighters launched a boat and used sonar to search the lake. Divers entered the water at 11:18 p.m. and located the victim about 10 minutes later.
Emergency crews pulled the man from the water and performed CPR before he was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Ravenna, where life-saving efforts continued.
