VIRGINIA — 21-year-old man died Monday evening after his dirt bike crashed into a tree on private property in the Montpelier area, according to the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the 18000 block of Mountain Road around 5:40 p.m. for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the dirt bike was traveling west on a trail located on the victim’s property when it veered off the left side of the trail while going up an incline and struck a tree.
The rider, identified as Taylor Seay of Montpelier, was thrown from the bike and suffered significant internal injuries. Authorities said Seay appeared to have been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Emergency crews took over life-saving efforts from first responders upon arrival, but Seay was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Taylor Seay during this difficult time,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
