SOUTH CAROLINA — A dirt bike rider died following a crash Friday night in Orangeburg County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred just after 8 p.m. on U.S. Highway 178 at the intersection of Boyd Road.
Authorities said a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling east on U.S. 178 while a 1990 Kawasaki dirt bike was traveling west. Troopers said the SUV was attempting to turn left into a driveway when it collided with the dirt bike.
The rider of the dirt bike was taken to a local hospital, where they later died from their injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe was not injured.
The identity of the dirt bike rider has not yet been released by the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
