GEORGIA — A Peach County man has died following an ATV crash that happened over the weekend, according to local authorities.
Peach County Coroner Kerry Rooks said the crash occurred Saturday evening. The man later died early Tuesday morning, around 2:30 a.m., at Atrium Health Navicent in Macon.
The victim has been identified as Bradley Williams, 36.
According to Peach County Sheriff Buck Shannon, a deputy initially observed individuals riding a scooter and a four-wheeler on Spruce Street, which is a city roadway where four-wheelers are not permitted. When the deputy attempted to turn around and speak with the ATV driver, the driver fled and crashed, Shannon said.
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the incident. Authorities said the ATV was traveling west on Spruce Street while actively fleeing from the deputy. During the pursuit, the driver veered onto the south shoulder of the roadway and struck a utility pole.
Officials said Williams was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and suffered serious injuries.
The investigation remains ongoing.
