VIRGINIA — A 50-year-old man is dead after an alleged attempted robbery led to a shooting early Saturday morning in Henrico County.
Henrico County Police said officers responded to a report of a shooting around 2:39 a.m. on April 26 in the 2800 block of Fairfield Avenue.
When they arrived, they found a man on the ground with a gunshot wound.
Officers performed life-saving measures before Henrico Fire personnel transported the man to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The victim was identified as Ivan Hunt, 50, of Henrico County.
According to investigators, a man and woman were sitting inside a vehicle when a masked man, later identified as Hunt, approached them and attempted to rob them at gunpoint.
Police said Hunt fired his weapon, prompting the man inside the vehicle to return fire.
Henrico County Police are continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call Henrico police at 804-501-7323.
