INDIANA — A 12-year-old boy died early Friday morning in what police believe was an accidental shooting at a home on Dunshire Drive.
Officers with the Cumberland Metropolitan Police Department responded to the 11500 block of Dunshire Drive shortly after 1:00 a.m. and found the child suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was transported to a nearby hospital in the Indianapolis area, but later died from his injuries.
According to CMPD, preliminary findings suggest the shooting was accidental and involved a firearm that was easily accessible to multiple juveniles inside the home.
Police say several witnesses present at the time of the incident have been interviewed as the investigation continues.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office has been notified, but no formal charges have been filed at this time.
