PENNSYLVANIA — A man was killed Tuesday afternoon after being trapped underground by a large rock at a quarry in Westmoreland County, officials said.
Emergency crews responded to Derry Construction on the 320 block of Quarry Road after reports that a 500-pound rock had fallen onto the man’s legs. Despite rescue efforts, he did not survive.
The Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene, and Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the incident.
Authorities have not released the man’s identity. It is not yet known what caused the rock to fall or if anyone else was injured.
