
OHIO — A high-speed police chase ended in tragedy Friday night when a fleeing vehicle crashed into another car near the Eddy Road Bridge, leaving one person dead and another seriously injured.
According to Cuyahoga County spokesperson Jennifer Ciaccia, sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a vehicle around 9:45 p.m. on East 9th Street, but the driver sped away.
The fleeing vehicle exited the freeway at Eddy Road, where it collided with another car.
Cleveland EMS reported that emergency responders arrived at I-90 and Eddy Road to find a car on fire and one person ejected from a vehicle.
A 45-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 40-year-old woman was transported to University Hospitals in serious condition.
One burning vehicle was located at the start of the on-ramp, while the other was at the base of a wall east of Eddy Road and south of the on-ramp.
Bratenahl Police, Cleveland Police, and Cleveland Fire crews all responded to the scene.
The crash forced the temporary closure of entrance and exit ramps from the Eddy Road Bridge over the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway.
