INDIANA — A single-vehicle crash on Thursday evening claimed the life of a 19-year-old passenger and left the driver seriously injured, according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department.
The crash occurred around 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 20 along State Road 227 near U.S. 36, approximately five miles east of Lynn and near the Ohio border.
Investigators said a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup was traveling north on State Road 227 when the driver lost control.
The vehicle veered off the roadway, rolled multiple times, and struck a utility pole.
Devon Lumpkin, 19, of Union City, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, an 18-year-old from New Castle, Indiana, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to an Ohio hospital.
The sheriff’s department said the crash remains under investigation.
