One person dead, another arrested following pursuit in Ohio

OHIO — A police pursuit that began in West Chester early Wednesday morning ended in a fatal officer-involved shooting on Interstate 75 in Lockland.

According to authorities, the incident began around 2:45 a.m. when a license plate reader flagged a vehicle as stolen.

When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver fled, leading to a multi-county chase.

Lockland police were called to assist after multiple people fled from the vehicle on foot.

One suspect was taken into custody, while another was later spotted walking along I-75 near mile marker 14.

Police say the suspect, a Black man, was holding an object and refused commands to comply. An officer attempted to subdue him with a taser, but it was ineffective.

Officials say the suspect continued to resist, prompting the officer to use his firearm.

The man was shot in the chest, and officers at the scene provided medical aid, but he was pronounced dead.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation. The identity of the deceased has not been released.

Northbound lanes of I-75 were shut down for several hours but reopened just before 7:40 a.m.
