OHIO — A Pickaway County man was killed Sunday night after his vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree, and caught fire, according to the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred just after 9:50 p.m. on State Route 752 between Winchester Road and Ett Noecker Road in Pickaway County. Deputies said 65-year-old Perry Swain of Ashville was driving a Cadillac eastbound when the vehicle went off the right side of the road and entered a shallow embankment.
Investigators said the car continued through the grass before striking a tree. Swain was ejected from the vehicle, which then caught fire. An off-duty police officer who witnessed the crash pulled Swain away from the burning vehicle and attempted life-saving measures until emergency crews arrived.
Despite those efforts, Swain was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, where an autopsy will be conducted.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
