
KENTUCKY — A driver was killed Thursday night after the sport-utility vehicle they were driving left the roadway and struck a tree, state police said.
The crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Highway 80 near Route 1313, according to the Kentucky State Police. Troopers said a 2011 Ford Explorer was traveling east on Highway 80 when it ran off the road and struck a tree.
The driver, whose name has not been released pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was reportedly in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
State police said alcohol and speed are being investigated as possible contributing factors.
Highway 80 was down to one lane for several hours as troopers worked the scene and conducted an investigation before reopening to traffic.
The crash remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
