
OHIO — A driver was killed early Friday after crashing into a local restaurant in Ashtabula, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash occurred just before 4 a.m. at the intersection of State Route 531 and State Route 11.
According to investigators, a Chevrolet Silverado traveling northbound on State Route 11 went off the roadway on the north side, striking a concrete post, a fence, a house and The Crow’s Nest restaurant.
Authorities said the driver was ejected from the vehicle before the pickup caught fire.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and has been identified as John Yerkey, 52, of Salem.
No other injuries were reported.
In a statement shared on social media, The Crow’s Nest said it will be closed indefinitely following the crash.
“None of our employees were hurt,” the business said.
Photos from the scene show extensive damage to the building, including fire damage caused by the crash.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
