One person dead after truck strikes pole in Ohio

OHIO — A 34-year-old Wakeman woman was killed early Sunday morning after crashing a pickup truck in Vermilion, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Sarah Gehringer was driving a Dodge Dakota on Darrow Road, just east of Furnace Street, around 12:15 a.m. when she lost control while exiting a curve at high speed. The truck went off the left side of the road, striking a utility pole and two trees.

Gehringer was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said she was not wearing a seatbelt.

OSHP reported that drugs and alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
