PENNSYLVANIA — A 74-year-old man was killed after his vehicle collided with a train in Northumberland County on Saturday afternoon.
Police said officers were dispatched to the intersection of Railway Street and Spruce Street around 12:40 p.m. following reports of a crash involving a car and a train.
According to investigators, Darwin Whitmer, 74, of Dalmatia, was attempting to cross the railroad tracks when his vehicle was struck by an oncoming train.
Whitmer suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead as a result of those injuries.
Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the collision. The incident remains under investigation.
