FLORIDA — A 72-year-old man from Ocala was killed Monday when his SUV was struck by a train, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash occurred along State Road 326 as the man was driving west. Investigators said the SUV turned north and became stuck on the train tracks as a southbound train approached the crossing.
The train then struck the left front side of the SUV, troopers said. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officials said the train’s conductor and a passenger on board were not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
