One person dead after moped strikes deer in South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA — A person who was seriously injured in a moped crash earlier this month has died, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened around 4:17 a.m. on June 16 along Beaver Dam Road near Morris Drive.

The victim was riding a 2014 Yamaha moped southbound when they collided with a deer and were thrown onto the roadway.

The rider was taken to a hospital for treatment but later died from their injuries, officials said Wednesday.

The coroner’s office has not yet released the name of the deceased.

The crash remains under investigation.
