INDIANA — A 4-year-old child drowned Sunday afternoon in Syracuse Lake, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
At approximately 4:45 p.m., a 911 call was made reporting a missing child on East North Shore Drive.
Syracuse police responded within minutes and located the child under a pier in about three feet of water.
The child was pulled from the lake and rushed to a hospital, but despite life-saving efforts, was pronounced dead.
Investigators say the child’s family was visiting a home on the lake. A parent called 911 after searching the house and realizing the child was missing.
The child’s identity has not been released. Conservation officers have classified the death as accidental, and the investigation is ongoing.
