
TENNESSEE — A 29-year-old man was killed early Sunday morning while inspecting his vehicle following a crash on Interstate 40 in downtown Nashville.
The crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes near the Hermitage Avenue exit. According to Metro police, the driver of a Dodge Journey initially rear-ended a Nissan van, causing both vehicles to become disabled.
Police said the driver of the Nissan pulled onto the right shoulder, while the driver of the Dodge moved into the far left lane. The driver of the Dodge, later identified as Darius Woods, exited his vehicle to inspect it for damage when he was struck by an Acura MDX.
Woods was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died. The 46-year-old driver of the Acura was also taken to the same hospital with critical injuries.
It is not known whether the driver of the Nissan was injured. No additional information was immediately released.
