One person dead after being struck by vehicle in Ohio

OHIO — The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash involving an electric bicycle that occurred early Tuesday morning.

Deputies say the crash happened around 5:45 a.m. on State Route 39 near Walnut Creek Cheese & Market in Walnut Creek Township.

According to investigators, 27-year-old Maria Kempf of Fresno was riding an e-bike and attempting to make a turn when she was struck by a car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials noted that Kempf was wearing a reflective vest and had a flashing rear light on the bicycle at the time of the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
