MICHIGAN — A 41-year-old woman was killed Friday evening after being struck by a vehicle in Monroe, according to Michigan State Police.
Troopers were dispatched just after 6:30 p.m. to South Telegraph Road near East Dunbar Road following reports of a crash involving a pedestrian. When officers arrived, they found the victim, a Newport resident, lying in the roadway.
Michigan State Police and the Monroe Township Fire Department attempted life-saving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the driver of the vehicle, a 43-year-old Monroe man, was questioned and is not suspected of being intoxicated.
Troopers reported they had been called to the same area earlier for a complaint about two pedestrians walking in and out of the roadway south of the crash location. By the time officers arrived, the pedestrians had entered a nearby gas station.
The crash remains under investigation by Michigan State Police, the MSP Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team, and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Medical Examiner’s Office.
