INDIANA — A child was killed Saturday evening after being struck by a vehicle on Indianapolis’ near east side, according to police.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) said officers were called just before 5 p.m. on March 28 to the 1200 block of North Rural Street on a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash.
When officers arrived, they found that the victim was a child. The child was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where they were later pronounced dead.
Police said the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Authorities do not believe intoxication was a factor in the crash.
Crash investigators are working to determine what led up to the incident. Additional details, including the child’s age and gender, have not been released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
