INDIANA — A woman from Anderson was killed early Thursday after being struck by a vehicle in Madison County, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities said deputies responded around midnight to the intersection of Scatterfield Road and Alexandria Pike for a reported crash.
When deputies arrived, investigators found a single-vehicle crash involving a Chevrolet Spark driven by a 31-year-old man from Frankton. Officials said the vehicle had struck a pedestrian, later identified as 38-year-old Johnay Swain.
According to an initial investigation, Swain had been walking northbound along Scatterfield Road when she was struck by the vehicle.
The Madison County Coroner’s Office pronounced Swain dead at the scene.
Officials said the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s department’s crash investigation team.
