ILLINOIS — A 12-year-old boy died Sunday evening after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle in Decatur, according to the Decatur Police Department.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. near the intersection of North Van Dyke Street and West King Street.
Police said the boy was riding his bicycle eastbound across the intersection when he was hit by a 2011 Dodge Challenger.
He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the vehicle, a 45-year-old Decatur man, was not injured. He was arrested for Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol – Causing Death.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time.
